'No snow'

Warnings of there maybe being 'no snow' in winter adorned my first 6 months in Finland.

But ... when you say 'no snow' ... does it mean an-absolute-absence-of-snow, or does it mean not-a-useful-amount-of-snow?

There is snow on the ground.

Unless you ask a Finn.

‘This is not snow’.

There is snow in Lapland.

Unless you ask a Finn.

It snows in winter.

Unless you ask a Finn.

‘There might be no snow’.

It is snowing.

Unless you ask a Finn.

‘Ei, sataa rakeita'

I am eating a Karelian pie.

Unless you ask a Finn.

‘No egg butter; you are not eating a Karelian pie.’

‘We lost’.

There is a sauna in my apartment.

‘It's electric’.

There are blueberries in the forest.

Unless you ask a Finn.

‘It is September; there are no blueberries'.

After 4 hours of snow

When we asked a Finn

'No, it's not snow.'

After 8 hours of snow

When we asked a Finn

'Fine, this is snow!'

This is still questionable in terms of snow status.
